Exhibition of Women Artists in Western NY
Buffalo Niagara Chapter
Date: February 20, 2020
Location: Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University
Details: Art from 185 women artists, representing the five Western NY counties, will be exhibited until mid-August 2020. We sincerely hope you will attend this fun opening, perhaps the biggest art opening of the year! Many businesses want to demonstrate their support for equality; many business and professional women have struggled against considerable bias to get where they are today. Art by women has not been given the careful thought and critical assessment as has art by men, historically and currently. Works by women are under-represented in museums and private collections. That must, and probably will, change as more women begin collecting art. Be an agent of change! We invite you to come to the exhibition’s opening reception on February 20th. Bring your boss, bring a colleague, bring a person you mentor, bring your checkbook. Select a piece of art for your office or home and buy from the artist directly. If you are purchasing for a corporation and would like the advice of a Castellani Art Museum curator before the event, that can be arranged. You can keep your art purchase private, between you and the artist, or you can choose to have your purchase be part of the Business Purchase Award program. The program will promote the purchaser or company, giving evidence of support for diversity programs and support for women artists. If you choose, notice of your purchase award will be placed with the piece; we can also accommodate corporate logos to highlight your company’s support of women artists. Since the exhibition will continue for six months, with many academic, community and special events held in the exhibit space during that time, the advertising benefit will be significant. Your business will be acknowledged with your company name near the piece you purchased. Please note that artwork must remain on view through the close of the exhibition on August 16, 2020. In an exemplary show of support for women artists, neither the Castellani Art Museum nor Niagara University will take a commission or buyers’ premium from the sales. All the funds resulting from your purchase will directly support women artists. The artists know this and priced their work accordingly. You will be able to find original art that you love and can afford.
