Buffalo Niagara women’s professional group brings “IRL” experience to virtual meetings

Author: Renee Cerullo/Monday, August 31, 2020

Although the Buffalo Niagara Chapter of NYS Women, Inc. will gather virtually over Zoom for its monthly meetings in 2020, it will still offer a shared “in real life” experience for members. The chapter recently mailed a “mood book” to members: the brightly colored flip chart of emojis can be used as visual shorthand when they introduce themselves at BNC’s virtual meetings. “Connecting with our members and creating a shared experience, even if it’s only online, is so important to staying engaged and energized,” said chapter president, Cindy Valtin, owner of C.Valtin Enterprises.

The chapter is also offering a member-only “goody bag” that will include snacks and a small bottle of wine to enjoy during the meetings. Each month’s bag will be sponsored by a BNC member company and include a special gift as well.

“During these difficult COVID times, we’ve planned the arc of our programs to be communicating, connecting, caring for community, and learning from – and sharing – one another’s experiences,” said president-elect and program chair, Becky Brubaker, general manager of Harlequin in Depew, NY.

BNC’s meeting will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM over Zoom. Robin Bridson, professional development & training coordinator at Colgate University and past president of NYS Women, Inc., will present “People! We Need to Talk: Effective Communications 101.” Open virtual networking starts at 6:15 PM and participants will have access until 7:45 PM for casual conversation. The meeting is free for BNC members and guests.  Register online at bncwomeninc.org (a Zoom link and password will be emailed after registering).

September’s meeting sponsor is Katharine Smith, owner of White Rabbit Design and creator of the Buffalo Gals line of Buffalove-themed note cards and gifts.

Since 1938, the Buffalo Niagara Chapter of NYS Women, Inc. has built powerful women personally, professionally and politically. The chapter strives to make a difference in the lives of working women throughout WNY. For more information: www.bncwomeninc.org.
