“The Door to Our Future: The importance of DEI, what DEI means, and how people can be more inclusive in their day-to-day lives”
Please join our speaker Aaron Denman (pronouns they/them), who is the Association Operations Coordinator for the Sullivan County Extension Office of Cornell University, for their presentation on DEI. They will discuss a concept that is sometimes reduced to a mere buzzword or a box to check: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, or DEI. We know, in theory, what DEI stands for. But do we know who it stands for? Or why? Their discussion will cover what DEI truly means; the importance of DEI; and how to make inclusion a part of your daily practice.
The change for DEI we need now doesn’t just happen by pointing out contrary statistics at corporate business meetings or on the floor of our nation’s leaders; it happens in our day-to-day interactions. At the beginning and end of all things, no matter our gender, our words, our thoughts, our voices are all we have. They are what gives us agency; and a truly inclusive environment ensures that gift can be respected and used for the betterment of our communities.
