According to a 2010 America for the Arts study on nonprofit arts and culture industry’s impact on the economy, nationally, the industry generated $135.2 billion of economic activity – $61.1 billion by the nation’s nonprofit arts and culture organizations. This economic activity supports 4.13 million full-time jobs and generates $86.68 billion in resident household income.

Join us for a panel discussion with artists Dana Saylor and Catherine Linder Spencer and Adriana Gonzales-Vera, co-founder and COO of Haute La Vie, a creative agency.  Our panelists will talk about their personal philosophies on art and how it impacts our local community, as well as the business of arts and culture.  Moderated by Pauline Hoffmann, Dean, Journalism/Mass Communication at St. Bonaventure.

Catherine Linder Spencer is an award-winning artist and art educator. Her work has been exhibited widely in museums and galleries in Western New York including the Albright Knox Art Gallery, the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, and The Castellani Art Museum. She recently completed a one-year fellowship program through the New York Foundation for the Arts. Catherine has participated in many public art projects including “Herd About Buffalo” and “Art on Wheels.” Her work is in private collections across the United States.  Catherine’s art includes a broad scope of media including 35 mm photography, mixed media collage, sculpture, large scale site specific installations to enamel work and fiber based sculpture.  When Catherine is not making art, she loves teaching in Buffalo Public School classrooms as well as healthcare environments.  She recently worked with UB Art Galleries on a long term project with adult artists from Aspire, Inc.  She was a longtime member of City of Buffalo Arts Commission and City of Buffalo Arts and Cultural Funding Advisory Board and continues to serve of a number of not for profit boards.
